LADY MONARCH BASKETBALL PICKED THIRD IN 2009-10 FREEDOM CONFERENCE PRE-SEASON COACHES POLL

ANNVILLE -- The King's College women's basketball team has been predicted to finish in third-place according to the 2009-10 Freedom Conference Pre-Season Coaches Poll, announced Tuesday by the Middle Atlantic Conferences Office.

A year ago, the Lady Monarchs posted a 11-16 record and reached the semi-finals of the Freedom Conference playoffs.  The 2009-10 squad will stand as one of the youngest in years as King's does not have a single senior or junior on the squad and will feature 14 freshmen and sophomore players. Eight players on the roster are rookies.

King's, which returns three starters, will be led by sophomore point-guard Brittany Muscatell who averaged 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per-game while setting a Lady Monarch freshmen record with 118 assists. Sophomore forward Paige Carlin contributed 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds with 36 assists and 32 steals.  Sophomore power forward Julianna Lynott is the third returning starter and averaged 5.0 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds a year ago

Other returning players for head coach Brian Donoghue include sophomore guard Abby Malloy, sophomore guard Nina Magan, and sophomore guard Kayla Dick.

The Lady Monarchs open the season November 17 with a 7:00 p.m. road game against Neumann College. King's first home game is slated for November 30 with a 6:00 p.m. matchup with Widener University.
