FOUR KING’S FOOTBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-MAC SQUAD
ANNVILLE -- Four members of the King’s College football team were named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Team, the MAC Office announced Tuesday.
Named to the first team were senior wide receiver Mike Verbitski (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) and senior offensive lineman Brandon Cogley (Bethlehem/Freedom) . Second-team selections included senior defensive tackle Alex Watty (Bethlehem/Liberty) and senior offensive lineman Zach Dunn (Blackwood, NJ/Washington Twp.).
Verbitski conclude a brilliant senior year at King’s where he established new school single-season records with 57 catches and 13 touchdown receptions. He led the MAC with 917 receiving yards, the second most receiving yards in one season in King’s history. His 20 career touchdown receptions are the most in the history of the Monarch football program. He also caught a school-record three touchdown passes in one game on two occasions. Verbitski concluded his career with 113 receptions and 1,753 receiving yards, both ranking second in King’s history.
Cogley, meanwhile, received first-team All-MAC honors for the second straight season. As a junior he was named first-team playing left guard. As a senior he earned a spot on the all-league team after playing right tackle the entire season. He was a three-year starter, playing center as a sophomore and ranks as one of the most versatile offensive linemen in King's history.
Dunn earned his first post-season selection playing alongside Cogley at right guard. The pair enabled the Monarchs to finish second in MAC rushing at 176.4 yards per-game while allowing just seven quarterback sacks all season long, the fewest in the MAC. The next best total was 13 sacks allowed by Lebanon Valley.
Watty, meanwhile, was the emotional leader and captain of the Monarch defense, inspiring his team by playing with multiple injuries throughout the season. On the year he totaled 35 tackles with 5.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and knocked down three passes at the line of scrimmage. A three-year starter, Watty concludes his three-year varsity career at King’s with 124 tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss.
