VERBITSKI NAMED TO ECAC SOUTHEAST REGION ALL-STAR TEAM
WILKES-BARRE – King's College football standout Mike Verbitski (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) has been named to the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference Southeast Region All-Star Team.
A 6-2, 205-pound wide receiver, Verbitski recently concluded one of the finest individual seasons in King's football history. Verbitski set new school single-season records with 57 catches and 13 touchdown receptions. He ranked first in the Middle Atlantic Conference with 917 receiving yards, the second most receiving yards in one season in Monarch history. His 20 career touchdown receptions are the most ever at King's. He also caught a school-record three touchdown passes in one game on two occasions. Verbitski concluded his career with 113 receptions and 1,753 receiving yards, both ranking second in King's history. He was a first-team All-MAC selection.
On December 5, Verbitski played in the North-South Senior Football Classic in Salem, Va., helping the North squad to a 14-0 victory.
“We are very happy Mike has again been honored for the outstanding year he enjoyed,” Jim Anderson, interim head coach at King's stated. “He has been a product of hard work and a tremendous commitment to the weight room. Mike made up his mind that he wanted to become a top-notch football player at this level and did the necessary work to reach that goal. It always great to see a player rewarded for the time and effort they put in to get there.”
