King's Places 54 on MAC Fall All-Academic Teams, Ranking 2nd Among All MAC Schools in Total Selections

KING'S PLACES 54 STUDENT-ATHLETES ON MAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

ANNVILLE — A total of 54 King's College student-athletes have been named to the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Fall Sports All-Academic Teams, the MAC Office announced.

In order to be nominated for selection, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.20 overall grade-point average and be at least a sophomore in class standing.  Freshman are not eligible for selection.  Nominations were due in early December and the most recent grades utilized for selections were GPA's through the 2009 spring semester.

Messiah led in total selections with 60, while King's (54) and Widener (53) were second and third respectively. Lebanon Valley was fourth with 51 followed by Eastern, Elizabethtown and FDU-Florham who were tied for fifth with 41. Wilkes was eighth with 37, followed by Albright (36), Manhattanville (35), Misericordia, (35), Lycoming (33), Arcadia (28), DeSales (24), Alvernia (23) and Delaware Valley (23).

King's football team paved the way with 19 selections, more than any other football team in the MAC.  Those players selected included Matt Bennett, Kyle Berardinucci, Mike Blessing, Ryan Cain,  John Cuiffo, Dan DiClementi, Billy Everett, Eric Fay, Matt Ihlein, Joe Kirchon, Corey Lavin, Eric Ludwig,  Scott McGonigal, Brian Mitros, Doug Mucha, Vince Pabst, Mike Stampone, Mike Verbitski, and Alex Watty.

The King's field hockey team had seven players chosen, including Alicia Cox, Heather Kozimor, Holly Mannucci, Erin McGinley, Michelle Ray, Candice Russ, and Briana Turnbaugh.

The men's soccer team also had seven players honored, including Dan Carle, Billy Elliott, Alex Henery, Dan Horn, Rob McGuiness, Kevin Moulton, and Kyle Rowan.

The women's soccer team added an additional seven players to th4e total, including Becky Chateauneuf, Sara Ciarlo, Rachael Donatiello, Brittany Morgan, Meghan O'Kane, Brianne Schmidt, Meghan Snavely, and Erin Tanner.

A total of six women's cross country runners were selected, including Rachael Barto, Molly Brown, Hannah Eckles, Heather Elphick, Shannon McGowan, and Tori Posatko,

Four members of the women's volleyball team were named, including Shannon Ellis, Kelly Greenway, Colleen Grosenick, and Kaitlyn Malshefski.

The men's cross country team rounded out the selections with three team members chosen, including Jeff Cort, Ryan Glenn, and Patrick Sammon.

The MAC Women's Tennis All-Academic Team will be named in the spring.  Despite the teams playing the majority of their games in the fall, the MAC hosts its post-season team tournament in the spring and will select players along with other spring sports teams. The MAC will be moving women's tennis to the spring season beginning in 2011.
