GALVIN, HOERNER NAMED TO SECOND TEAM ECAC SOUTHERN REGION ALL-STAR SQUAD
WILKES-BARRE – After leading the King's College softball team to the 2009 Freedom Conference championship and an NCAA Division III national tournament berth, Lady Monarch standouts Meaghan Galvin (Washingtonville, NY/John S. Burke) and Lindsey Hoerner (Annville/Northern Lebanon) have been named to the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Region All-Star Team as second-team selections.
A junior shortstop, Galvin enjoyed an outstanding year with a team-high .443 (51-115) batting average with eight doubles, four triples, two home runs, 24 RBI, and scored 33 runs while posting a .635 slugging percentage.
She hit safely in 31 of King's 38 games and ended the season with a 10-game hitting streak. Galvin had previously been named a first-team All-Freedom Conference selection as well as a second-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association second-team East Regional All-American.
Hoerner, meanwhile, concluded a fine junior year as King's top pitcher, earning a 16-8 record with a 2.16 earned run average, including 109 strikeouts in 145 and two-thirds innings. At the plate, she batted .282 (20-71) with five doubles, three home runs, and 17 RBI.
She was previously named the 2009 Freedom Conference “Pitcher of the Year” and was also a second-team NFCA East Regional All-American. Additionally, Hoerner was named the most valuable player of the 2009 Freedom Conference Tournament.
