KING'S WRESTLERS DOWN SCRANTON, 37-3
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College wrestling won the last nine bouts to post a convincing 37-3 victory over the University of Scranton Tuesday in Scandlon Gymnasium. With the win, King's improved to 6-7 on the year while Scranton fell to 2-10.
Scranton opened the meet by picking up its only win, a 7-0 decision by Mike Murcia over Nick Kaiser. At 133, King's senior Tony Miele surrendered a quick first-period takedown to Vinny Signoriello, but eventually scored a reversal before ending the bout with a pin at 2:12 to give King's a 6-3 lead. Monarch senior Frankie Davis followed with a 9-5 decision over Mike Ebert at 141 before freshman Chris Puorro used a riding time point to post a 5-4 victory over Tom Manning.
At 157, senior Taylor Green gave King's a 16-3 lead with an 8-0 major decision over Mike Guenther. After junior Jerry Robbins downed Frank Siclari 6-0 at 165, freshman Dave Foley used a 5-3 decision to up the King's advantage to 22-3 after the 174-pound bout.
King's continued to roll as freshman Frank Marinucci registered a 7-2 decision over Kevin Digiulio at 184. At 197. Monarch rookie Peter Dwyer was dominant in pinning Joe Williams in 1:13 to push the King's lead to 31-3. In the final bout at 285, King's senior Chris Rash, who just rejoined the team after undergoing an appendicitis operation over the holiday break, made a successful return by pinning Dave Domonkos in 2:16.
King's returns to action Friday and Saturday with the Bud Whitehill National Duals at Lycoming College.
