FIRST-HALF WOES DOOM KING'S WOMEN IN  72-44 LOSS TO DESALES
 
CENTER VALLEY -- Host DeSales University erupted for a 44-12 half-time lead and cruised to a stunning 72-44 victory over the King's College women's basketball team in a Freedom Conference matchup Saturday in Center Valley.
 
With the win, defending Freedom champion DeSales improved to 8-9 and 4-3 in league games while King's fell to 9-9 and 4-3.
 
King's first half was a recipe for disaster as the Lady Monarchs shot just 20.8 (5-24) percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers over the first 20 minutes of play. DeSales, meanwhile, full advantage in shooting 48.6 (18-37) percent from the field while canning an impressive 50.0 (6-12) percent from three-point range.
 
DeSales held a 6-5 lead after the first 3:07 of play but the wheels fell off the wagon as The Bulldogs went on a 30-2 run to build a 36-7 with 6:15 remaining in the half. During the run, the Lady Monarchs went scoreless from 13:02 to 5:45, totaling a span of 7:17 without a single point.
 
Lori Lidlow topped DeSales with 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Kelly McGrann added 14 points while  Megan Montchyk tallied 11 off the bench. Cherelle Simons contributed nine points and nine rebounds.
 
Paige Carlin topped the Lady Monarchs with 17 points and five rebounds while Megan Rigous followed with nine points and five boards.
 
King's will be idle until Saturday when the Lady Monarchs host Manhattanville at 1:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
