Men's Lacrosse Opens with 17-5 Win over Shenandoah

KING’S LACROSSE OPENS WITH 17-5 WIN OVER SHENANDOAH
WILKES-BARRRE - - The King’s College men’s lacrosse team opened the 2010 season in successful fashion as the Monarchs posted a 17-5 victory over visiting Shenandoah University Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.
Lenny Fox and Curtis Reinard both led the way for King’s with four goals each, while Dan Carducci and Brendan Novotny scored three goals each. Jason Merola tallied two goals while Rusty Booth notched one goal. After a 1-1 tie after the end of the first quarter, the Monarchs forged ahead with seven goals in the second stanza to take a 8-1 lead into the halftime break.
Fox would score his first collegiate goal at 7:34 mark of the second quarter, and would later record his first assist at the 12:15 mark of the third quarter.
Kevin Totaro led Shenandoah in scoring with two goals, while Andrew Fleischmann made 15 saves in the loss for the Hornets.
King’s outshot Shenandoah 49-24 and held a 45-36 advantage in ground balls. Freshman Kenny Cernuto made five saves in goals in his first collegiate victory with the Monarchs.
The Monarchs return to action on Sunday March 7 as King’s goes on the road to Baltimore, Maryland to take on non-conference foe Goucher College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
