GREEN DROPS TWO CLOSE MATCHES AT NCAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
DES MOINES, IOWA -- King's College wrestling standout Taylor Green (Montgomery, MD/River Hill) saw his chance of gaining all-American status come to an end when the Monarch senior dropped two close matches and was eliminated on the opening day of the NCAA Division III National Tournament Friday in the U.S. Cellular Center, Des Moines, IA.
In his opening contest, Green (25-6) dropped a hard-fought 3-1 overtime decision to Dan Twito (35-6) of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in his first-round matchup. After the pair were deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation, Twito scored the deciding takedown to end the contest in sudden victory. Twito then stunned second-seeded Vic Loughlin (32-3) of Cornell College by a 3-2 count.
Green was then placed in the consolation bracket where he dropped a 6-4 decision to Dale Handley of Coe College. Green ended his final season with the Monarchs with a fine 25-7 record and placed second in the Metropolitan Conference Championships to reach the national event.
