King's Football Announces 2010 Season Schedule

8/12/2010 2:03:10 PM

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College football team is set to begin practices Saturday as the Monarchs embark on their 2010 season. King's will face a rugged schedule with five opponents who earned post-season berths, including two that qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division III national playoffs.

King's opens its 2010 slate with a trip to Springfield College, the second straight year the schools will meet. Springfield went 8-2 a year ago, capturing the ECAC Northeast Championship Bowl. The Monarchs make their home debut on September 11 when they welcome Bethany College to McCarthy Stadium. The matchup is year-one of the inaugural MAC-PAC Football Challenge in which members of the Middle Atlantic Conference square off against an opponent from the President's Athletic Conference. Matchups are determined by where each team placed in their respective conferences.

William Paterson, a member of the highly-respected New Jersey Athletic Conference, returns to the schedule as well as ECAC Southwest Bowl champions Lebanon Valley College (9-2). NCAA Quarterfinalist Albright College (11-2) and defending Middle Atlantic Conference champion Delaware Valley College (10-2) also return to the schedule in 2010. The Monarchs face conference foes Lycoming College in Williamsport on October 2 then host Widener University on Homecoming October 9.

King's finishes its regular season slate with a home game against FDU-Florham on November 6 before traveling to cross-town rival Wilkes University in the annual Mayor's Cup Game on November 13.

MEDIA NOTE:  Please note October 30 game at Delaware Valley has been changed from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. to accommodate staffing at the MAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Delaware Valley
