KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL POSTS 90-66 WIN OVER FDU-FLORHAM BEHIND CONROY, HOT SHOOTING
WILKES-BARRE – Senior forward Kevin Conroy poured in a game-high 24 points and the Monarchs shot 53.8 percent (14-26) from behind the arc in a 90-66 win against FDU-Florham Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
King's moves to 13-8 overall and evens its conference mark at 5-5. FDU-Florham slides to 4-17 overall and 2-8 in league contests.
King's went inside early and often as Conroy flexed his muscle down low scoring six points in the games' first six minutes. The long ball was also falling for the Monarchs as Nick Reisig and Matt Fiorino each dialed home treys as King's took a 24-20 lead with 4:27 on the clock. Fiorino continued to fire away from behind the line, connecting on two three-pointers on consecutive possessions as the lead grew to 34-24 with just over a minute to play in the half. FDU answered late with a trey and two free throws to cut the deficit to six, 37-31, heading to the break.
In the second stanza, King's continued to keep pressure on the visiting Devils using a 12-4 run in the first four minutes of half. Two three-pointers from Kyle Hammonds followed by two more treys from Fiorino capped off the scoring fury. The lead would swell to as many as 29 points late in game, as King's cleared its bench as 10 different Monarchs found the floor.
Conroy was efficient shooting 8-for-16 from the floor throughout despite constant double and triple teams. Fiorino finished with 17 points, hitting 5-of-6 from long range. Hammonds joined the double figure scorers posting 14 points and nine rebounds. Reisig and Kyle Stackhouse each added nine points.
Adam Katz led the Devils offensive attack with 12 points and three rebounds. Joe Missale followed with 10 points. The Devils never found their rhythm offensively, as the King's defense was stout throughout. FDU-Florham managed to shoot only 34.4 (22-64) from the field and just 25.0 percent (5-20) from behind the arc.
The Monarchs also held a slim 39-37 advantage on the boards, collecting seven offensive rebounds in the process. King's also did an excellent job taking care of the basketball committing a season-low 11 turnovers on the day.
King's will continue their Freedom playoff push Wednesday with an important road trip to Delaware Valley College. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Doylestown, Pa.
