King's Falls to No. 6 Centenary in Metropolitan Action

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College wrestling team found themselves shorthanded as they dropped a 43-6 decision to nationally ranked Centenary in Metropolitan action Tuesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Monarchs dug a hole early forfeiting the first four matches of the night to fall behind 24-0. Chris Burdge extended the Cyclone lead with a pin of Nathaniel Seals just before the end of the first period.

Centenary picked up a decision at 165 where Matt Vernon held off a late charge by Tommy Desir, 14-10, and push the lead to 33-0. The Cyclones also scored a win at 174 with a 13-1 decision by Kevin Dufresne over Anthony Clifford.

Shane Stark scored the first win of the night for the Monarchs battling to a 4-2 decision over Khalid Shakir. King's also got a 5-1 decision from Ryan Longenberger at 197. The night ended with Joseph Vitone accepting an injury default as King's Peter Dwyer appeared to aggravate a leg injury early in the second period.

King's is now 6-10 in dual meets and hosts Wilkes on Friday in their dual meet finale at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
