King's Grapplers Score 24-19 Victory Over Elizabethtown in Metropolitan Action

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's wrestling team built a lead in the lower weights and didn't look back as the Monarchs notched a 24-19 win over Elizabethtown College Wednesday night in Metropolitan Conference action at Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Monarchs got off to a quick start with Jamie Scarantino picking up a 12-2 major decision at 125. Aaron Perez and Demarquis Holley scored pins at 133 and 141 respectively. Perez in 4:10 and Holley in 2:01 to extend the King's lead to 16-0.

Elizabethtown came back when Colin Sheridan pinned Martin Dartoe at 149 and Zack Sheridan scored a 3-1 decision over Gordon Custer to cut the Monarch lead to 16-9.

Tommy Desir tallied a 25-10 technical fall in 6:25 to push the King's lead back to 21-9. The Blue Jays got a major decision from Zeke Zimmer to make the score 21-13 after the 174 pound bout.

The Monarchs got a 10-5 decision from Shane Stark at 184 to make the score 24-13. Elizabethtown won the final two bouts of the night with Philip Landis scoring a 16-9 decision at 197 and Jeremy Rieth defeating Peter Dwyer 4-2 in the second sudden victory overtime session.

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they host Hunter College at 2:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium.
