KING'S MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS EASTERN IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TITLE GAME

ST. DAVIDS, PA --- Daniel Hernandez scored the game-winning goal three minutes into the second overtime period to lead the King's College men's soccer team to their second straight Freedom Conference Championship with a 2-1 double overtime victory over host Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Monarchs receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament while improving their record to 15-5-1. The Eagles end their season with a 15-4 record.

For the second straight year King's overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit in the Freedom Conference Championship game. Eric Giovagnoli, the 2014 Freedom Conference "Offensive Player of the Year", gave Eastern a 1-0 lead when he scored on a penalty kick at the 24:06 mark of the game.

In the second half King's was able to tie the game up at 1 when Chris Nygren scored off a cross into the box from the right side by Erik Foster. Neither team was able to score for the rest of regulation and the first overtime period.

Hernandez headed in the game-winning goal 3:04 into the second overtime period off of a double assist from Brian Fenster and Nygren. Fenster sent a cross into the box that Nygren headed towards the front of the goal and Hernandez put it into the back of the net. Hernandez was named the tournament most valuable player after the game.

Eastern outshot King's 19-13 but the Monarchs had a 10-8 advantage in corner kicks. Tyler Wilson made three saves in goal for King's while Jamie Stratton made four saves for Eastern.

The Monarchs earn the Freedom Conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at www.NCAA.com.
