30 Wrestlers Punch Their Ticket to National Tournament

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – A total of 30 wrestlers earned their way to the NCAA National Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa by placing in the top three at the NCAA East Regional Wrestling Championships held at King's College's Scandlon Gymnasium on Sunday.
In the 125 pound weight class Paul Bewak of Johns Hopkins University took the top spot by defeating Michael Mui of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 7-0. Kevin Corrigan of The College of New Jersey also qualified for nationals at 125. McDaniel College's Ryan O'Boyle took first at 133 with a 12-5 decision over Myzar Mendoza of Wilkes University. Also reaching nationals at 133 pounds was Jaydon Rice of Hunter College. Results for third and fifth place matches are below.
New York University's Brandon Jones placed first at 141 with a 7-4 victory over Henry Stauber of Johns Hopkins University. Logan Meister of Ferrum College took third to advance to nationals. At 149 Mark Hartstine of Wilkes University topped Dylan Thorsen 6-0 to take the top spot. Vinny Fava also advanced at 149.
Kristopher Krawchuk of Wilkes University defeated Emmanuel Ajagbe of Delaware Valley with a 7-3 decision at 157. Richie Jasinski took third. Chris Burdge of Centenary was leading when he accepted an injury default from Anthony Carlo to of Ursinus College to win the 165 pound weight class. King's College's
Tommy Desir held on for a 4-2 decision over Alec Horan to advance to nationals.
At the 174 pound weight class Zach Zotollo of The College of New Jersey notched a 7-4 decision over Joshua Sibblies of Centenary in the first place match. Kyle Diesel of Wilkes moved on with a third place finish. The College of New Jersey's Brian Broderick earned a first place spot on the podium with a 3-2 decision over Ryan Dormann of Steven Institute of Technology at 184. Giovanni Santiago moved on with a third place finish.
Aaron Karns of Delaware Valley posted a 8-0 victory against Christian Psomas of Ursinus College in the 197 pound first place bout. Eric Bach from Wilkes also moved on. At 285 Delaware Valley's Zach Roseberry defeated Matan Peleg of Ursinus to claim the title. William Fletcher of Wilkes advanced to nationals.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association also handed out their special awards. Mitch Marcks of Wilkes was named Assistant Coach of the Year. Marcks is a former KIng's wrestler who was a national runner-up for the Monarchs back in 2003. Ursinus mentor Bill Racich earned Coach of the Year honors while Burdge of Centenary was tabbed the Outstanding Wrestler.
Wilkes topped the team standings with 106.5 points coming in just ahead of Ursinus at 105.5 and Delaware Valley at 102.5.
The NCAA National Championships are slated for March 14-15 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
