KING'S WRESTLERS EDGE SCRANTON, 23-18WILKES-BARRE — The King's College wrestling team won just one of seven matches wrestled but picked up three victories by forfeit as the Monarchs registered a 23-18 victory over the University of Scranton Tuesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win King's improved to 5-15 while Scranton slipped to 5-13.
After Scranton's Bradon Davis picked up a 4-2 decision at 125, King's took a 5-3 lead when
Matt Sparks posted a 16-1 technical fall victory at 133. Scranton, however, won the next five matches with decisions from James Kelly (141), Patrick Brown (149), Ian Evans (157), Zach D'Apolito (165) and Shawn Flesche (174) to build a 18-5 lead.
But King's
Nathaniel Seals,
Ryan Longenberger, and
Ralph Bernardo were each awarded forfeits at 184, 197, and 285 to give the Monarchs the final 18 points of the match.
King's will close out the regular-season Thursday, February 19 with a 7:00 p.m. Home matchup against crow-town rival Wilkes.
