KING'S MEN'S TENNIS REACHES FREEDOM CONFERENCE FINAL WITH 5-1 WIN OVER FDU-FLORHAM

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College men's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches and then posted victories in the first three completed singles bouts as the Monarchs posted a 5-1 Freedom Conference Tournament Semi-final victory over visiting FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon at Kirby Park.

King's improves their record to 12-6 and advances to their fourth consecutive Freedom Conference title match where the Monarchs will face cross-town rival and host Wilkes University at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Ralston Courts.

The match started off with the doubles competition and Stephen Brand and Nathan Carl teamed up to take an 8-1 victory at number-one doubles. Next to finish were Ryan Hegarty and Matt James with an 8-6 victory at number-three doubles. The Devils were able to get their only point of match when Mitch Gettis and Steven Serras teamed up at number-two doubles to defeat the Monarch team of Tyler Ryman and John Labiak by a score of 9-7.

In the singles matches James made quick work of his opponent at number-five singles to take a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Brand won a 6-1, 6-0 decision at number-one singles before Hegarty ended the match with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at number-four singles. The remaining three matches went unfinished with the Monarchs clinching the victory. King's held a lead in two of the three matches.

The Monarchs will now face Wilkes University in the Freedom Conference title match for the fourth straight year. Wilkes has won the previous three meetings.
