KING'S SOFTBALL DROPS TWO AT FREEDOM TOURNEY, MONARCHS ELIMINATED

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team dropped both games at the Freedom Conference Softball Championships and was eliminated.  King's lost its first game to top-seeded DeSales 5-3, then fell to third-seeded Misericordia 6-0.
With the losses King's ended its season with a 17-14 record.

In the opener King's took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Samantha bloom singled and later scored on a base hit from Nicole Turner
DeSales, however, countered with all five of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bulldogs were keyed by a two-run double from Emily Hockman and RBI singles from Annie Cosantino and Kayla Adanalian.

King's pushed across two runs in the sixth when Debra Renner singled and Turner walked. Shelby Eby followed with a RBI single before Brianna DiMaggio knocked in Turner from third with an infield ground out.

King's tried to rally in the seventh when Bloom smacked a leadoff double and Turner drew a two-out walk. DeSales, however, would register the final out to hold onto the win.

Bloom and Renner had two hits to pace King's. Allison Herbert was the losing pitcher, allowing  five earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.

Against Misericordia, the Cougars pushed across three runs in the seocnd to take the lead when Whitney Ellenberg drilled a three-run double. Misericordia added another run in the third on a RBI single from Melissa Parker. In the fifth a double from Andi Veneziale and a sacrifice fly by Ellenberg pushed the score to 5-0. The Cougars added the final run of the game in the fifth when Megan Hardy delivered a solo home run.

Bloom took the pitching loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits in two innings. King's received a double from Megan Beaupre and singles from Helana Supsic, Bloom, Renner, Turner, and Eby.

Veneziale, Sam Hare, Ellenberg, and Diana Kestenbaum had two hits each for Misericordia. Bailee Shies was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits in five full innings.
