About King's Women's Soccer

12286Women's soccer made its varsity debut at King’s in 1992, earning a 7-7 record in its inaugural season and becoming an increasingly popular spectator sport ever since.

King's began a new era in the spring of 2010 with the hiring of head coach Frank Carrozza, a highly-motivated, experienced mentor who has made a major impact on the program.

After a few down years the women's soccer program has made significant strides the during his tenure.  In his first two season the Lady Monarchs won four games each year. But the hard work came through in 2013 when the team finished 9-8-2 and finished second in the Freedom Conference Tournament. It marked the first time in program history King's had reached the conference finals. King's again reached ethe Freedom Conference semi-finals in 2014 and 2015.

The Lady Monarchs face a very challenging schedule both in and out of conference and annually faces such local rivals as Wilkes, Misericordia, Scranton, and Marywood.King's competes for an opportunity to qualify for the Freedom Conference Championships as the top four teams from within the conference earn post-season berths.

12268In 1999, the NCAA restructured its national tournament criteria and began awarding the Freedom Conference winner an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Championships, increasing King’s chances of competing at the national level.

King's women's soccer players have also been outstanding in the classroom as 150 team members have been named to Middle Atlantic Conference All-Academic Teams from 1993 to 2016.

King’s faces a rugged schedule of approximately 18 games and play its home games at Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex. The team plays the vast majority of its games on King's new multi-purpose synthetic turf field, McCarthy Stadium. Constructed in 2008, the field features lights, allowing the Lady Monarchs to play night games. King's will occasionally play on the natural grass surface of Leffler Field, also located in the Betzler Complex.
